FRONT Workshop 2026

The FutuRe Optical NeTworking (FRONT) Workshop 2026 will take place on 1 September 2026 in Dublin, Ireland. The workshop brings together researchers and engineers from academia and industry for a focused discussion on the technologies and architectures that will shape the next generation of optical networks.

FRONT is dedicated to advancing fixed network technology towards Fiber to the Everywhere and Everything (FTTE), supporting new services, markets and end users. This year the workshop broadens its scope to cover short reach optical networks across a range of applications, from AI clusters and data centres to 6G x-haul. The programme features keynote talks, invited presentations and panel discussions in an open, academic salon atmosphere.

Topics of primary interest include:

  • Optical communication systems and networks for AI clusters and data centres
  • Optical communication systems and networks for x-haul and next generation FTTx
  • Optical interconnects for AI clusters and data centres
  • Optical x-haul for 6G
  • Optical signal processing for next generation transceivers

The workshop is chaired by Prof. Ioannis Tomkos, University of Patras, with Prof. Dan Marom, Hebrew University of Jerusalem, and Dr. Raul Muñoz, Centre Tecnològic de Telecomunicacions de Catalunya, serving as Technical Program Chairs.

FRONT 2026 is held alongside the Summer School on Optical Communication 2026, which takes place from 2 to 4 September 2026 at Trinity College Dublin.
